Letter by one of Michele Bachmann's two Democratic challengers:

Bachmann Is Critical, But Offers No Solution

By Maureen Reed
St. Cloud Times
Sept. 13, 2009

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmanns recent diatribe against those who want to reform health care should cause any small-business owner, recent college graduate, senior citizen, uninsured or underinsured Minnesotan to pause.

Not only do her words sound hysterical, she offers no solutions. This type of nonconstructive emotional criticism, is at best, empty. At worst, it makes a difficult problem more difficult to solve.

When Bachmann was asked to offer a solution, she replied, "We cant even have that discussion. This is truly troubling.

How can any elected official not discuss the need to reform our health care system? Our Minnesota families and businesses are suffering badly under the high cost of care and the burden of being uninsured. With health care comprising 17 percent of our GDP, we need to listen hard, discuss solutions, find common ground and produce results.

Therefore, I invite Bachmann to sit down with me and discuss health care reform in front of the residents of the 6th District. I would meet her any time, any place. It is time for thoughtful debate, not divisive sound bites. It is time to put the residents of the 6th District ahead of national ambitions.

Now thats a covenant that I hope Michele can agree to. And, there will be no need for any bloodshed.
