At today’s Granite City Days parade in St. Cloud, Central Minnesota voters had the opportunity to meet gubernatorial candidate Tom Horner’s running mate, lieutenant-governor candidate Jim Mulder and his wife Carmen.

Following are some photos from the parade.

A Personal Note on Behalf of Tom Horner

Dear fellow Minnesotan:

Although I’m not affiliated with the Independence Party of Minnesota, I’m supporting Tom Horner’s campaign for Governor.

Tom believes our state is blessed with outstanding large and small businesses, a workforce that’s among the best in the world because we have invested in education, and abundant natural resources. He says, “Minnesota is a great state, but we can be an even better state.”

Tom garnered 68 percent of the delegates’ first ballot votes to win the endorsement of the Independence Party in May. Since then, he’s been building a dynamic campaign, and he’s making a strong showing in early polls of the general electorate.

But there’s much work to be done before the August 10 primary and the general election on November 2. It costs money to produce brochures, to buy ads, and for Tom and his running mate, Jim Mulder, to campaign in all corners of our state. They’re visiting with Minnesotans who share Tom’s passion and vision for the state we want for ourselves and generations to follow.

An important looming deadline is July 19. That’s the day by which Tom’s campaign can qualify to receive funding from the pool of grassroots money Minnesota taxpayers have designated for the Independence Party.

Tom needs to raise $35,000 in contributions of no more than $50 each by July 19. Break that down, and it means 1,000 contributors giving $35 each or 700 contributors giving $50.

Upon qualifying, Tom’s campaign will receive as much as $400,000 in campaign funds. But if the deadline is missed, the campaign gets nothing from the state’s taxpayer-designated pool of funds. It’s that simple. We’re all-in … or we’re entirely without.

I’m making my $50 contribution today and appeal to fellow Minnesotans to contribute any amount up to $50, each according their means, to help Tom reach his critical fundraising goal by July 19.

Visit Tom’s website at www.Horner2010.com to make a secure contribution and learn more about Tom, Jim, and their position on Jobs, Taxes, Making Government Work Better, Education, and Health Care.

Tom is a strong voice for moderation, a great candidate for Minnesota, and a good man. Please join me in Horner’s Corner.

Iraqis Demand Better Protection

One-year retrospective: One year ago today I reported that angry Iraqis were demanding better protection after a spate of bombings had killed at least 250 and wounded hundreds in just one week as U.S. forces pulled back from urban areas to large military bases in accordance with the 2008 status-of-forces agreement between the United States and Iraq.
