A statewide Minnesota survey of 1,000 likely voters, conducted November 10, 2009 by Rasmussen Reports, found U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann’s job approval rating to be 51 percent, with 45 percent disapproving and 4 percent not sure.

Here’s the poll question:

How would you rate the job Michele Bachmann has been doing as Congresswoman … do you strongly approve, somewhat approve, somewhat disapprove, or strongly disapprove of the job she’s been doing?

And here’s the breakdown of the results:

28% Strongly approve
23% Somewhat approve
12% Somewhat disapprove
33% Strongly disapprove
4% Not sure

The poll margin of sampling error was +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

It appears the poll — which also surveyed public opinion on U.S. senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken, and Gov. Tim Pawlenty — sampled voters statewide; in other words, the numbers for Rep. Bachmann do not reflect the opinion of 6th Congressional District voters exclusively, as suggested by this analysis of the poll’s internals:

Fifty-four percent (54%) of Republicans statewide Strongly Approve of Bachmann’s job performance.

If, indeed, Bachmann’s poll numbers reflect statewide public opinion, it’s likely her job approval numbers are considerably stronger in her own district, which is the most Republican of Minnesota’s eight congressional districts.

[…] Public Policy Polling, which will release Minnesota numbers on the presidential and Senate races Oct. 9, 2012, reports Rep. Michele Bachmann’s statewide favorability at 33/55 in its latest survey. That’s significantly lower than her numbers in a Minnesota survey conducted in November 2009, a year before Bachmann’s 2010 reelection, by Rasmussen Reports. In that poll, Bachmann’s statewide job approval was 51 percent, with 45 percent disapproving. […]
