U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq

As of Friday, July 15, 2011, at least 4,473 members of the U.S. military had died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to iCasualties.org.

Since the start of U.S. military operations in Iraq, 32,227 U.S. service members have been wounded as of April 30, 2011, according to iCasualties.org.

Army Sgt. Steven L. Talamantez, 34, Laredo, Texas, died July 10, 2011 in Amarah, Iraq, of injuries suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with indirect fire. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

U.S. Military Deaths in Afghanistan

As of Friday, July 15, 2011, at least 1,665 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan as a result of the invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to iCasualties.org.

Since the start of U.S. military operations in Afghanistan, 11,181 U.S. service members have been wounded as of April 30, 2011, according to iCasualties.org.

Army National Guard Sgt. 1st Class Terryl L. Pasker, 39, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died July 9, 2011 in Panjshir province, Afghanistan, when an Afghan government security officer attacked his unit with small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 334th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, Iowa National Guard, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.


Army Sgt. Christopher P. Soderlund, 23, Pineville, La., died July 9, 2011 in Logar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with rocket-propelled grenade fire. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, La.


Marine Lance Cpl. Norberto Mendez Hernandez, 22, Logan, Utah, died July 10, 2011 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, Calif.


Army Spc. Rafael A. Nieves Jr., 22, Albany, N.Y., died July 10, 2011 in Paktika province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.


Marine Lance Cpl. Robert S. Greniger, 21, Greenfield, Minn., died July 12, 2011 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.


Navy Seaman Aaron D. Ullom, 20, Midland, Mich., died July 12, 2011 while conducting a dismounted patrol in the Now Zad district, Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned as a hospitalman to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 8, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.


Army Sgt. Jeremy R. Summers, 27, Mount Olivet, Ky., died July 14, 2011 in Paktika province, Afghanistan, after enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire on July 13. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.

Immelman vs. Bachmann: Year 3


Republican challenges Bachmann (KEYC TV 12, Mankato, July 4, 2008) — Sixth District congresswoman Michele Bachmann will face a challenge from a fellow Republican. Fifty-two-year-old Aubrey Immelman says he’s running to restore conservative values, including fiscal responsibility and strong national security. Immelman opposes the Iraq war, saying it has further destabilized the Middle East, strengthened Iran, and hurt the United States.

One year ago today marked the beginning of my third year of campaigning to defeat incumbent U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann in Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District.

Three years ago today, on July 15, 2008, the first day of my campaign against incumbent U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann for the Republican nomination in Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District, I rolled out my policy statement on immigration, followed soon after by position statements on U.S. national security and law enforcement & public safety.
