In summary, Rep. Bachmann received a plurality (47.1%), but not a majority, of the vote, with 18,999 votes for and 21,350 against. Thus, the Sixth District appears to remain competitive, though it’s risky to draw strong conclusions from such an unrepresentative primary election sample, in which 385,279 voters (90.5%) chose not to vote.

I had hoped to be able to mobilize an anti-incumbent coalition in the Sixth District, but clearly that’s no easy task when less than 10 percent of registered voters exercise their right to vote and so few of those who do are willing to cross party lines and vote strategically.

But that’s politics.

In conclusion, I want to thank all of those who came out to support me at the polls.

And finally, I congratulate Rep. Bachmann on her win.

In summary, out of 40,563 votes cast, Rep. Bachmann received a plurality (47.2%), but not a majority, of the vote, with 19,127 votes for and 21,436 against. Thus, the Sixth District appears to remain competitive for Democrats. However, it should also be noted that the 22,261 combined vote total of the two Republican candidates comprised 54.9% of the vote. Ultimately, I would caution against drawing strong conclusions from an unrepresentative primary election sample, in which 385,046 voters (90.5%) chose not to vote.

St. Paul, Minn. — Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann easily won the 6th District GOP primary on Tuesday.

Bachmann, a first-term incumbent, defeated GOP challenger Aubrey Immelman, an associate professor of psychology at St. John’s University.

Immelman, a first-time candidate, did not accept any campaign contributions. He walked across the congressional district last month to draw attention to his campaign. …

Bachmann now faces DFL candidate Elwyn Tinklenberg, the state transportation commissioner.

Bob Anderson is also running in the 6th District as an Independence Party candidate. …
