U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq

As of Friday, December 2, 2011, at least 4,486 members of the U.S. military had died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to iCasualties.org.

Since the start of U.S. military operations in Iraq, 32,223 U.S. service members have been wounded as of Nov. 31, 2011, according to iCasualties.org.

Army Spc. David E. Hickman, 23, Greensboro, N.C., died Nov. 14, 2011 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered after encountering an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

U.S. Military Deaths in Afghanistan

As of Friday, December 2, 2011, at least 1,848 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan as a result of the invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to iCasualties.org.

Since the start of U.S. military operations in Afghanistan, 14,777 U.S. service members have been wounded as of Oct. 31, 2011, according to iCasualties.org.

Marine Lance Cpl. Nickolas A. Daniels, 25, Elmwood Park, Ill., died Nov. 5, 2011 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif.


Army Pfc. Cody R. Norris, 20, Houston, Texas, died Nov. 9, 2011 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.


Army Pfc. Theodore B. Rushing, 25, Longwood, Fla. died Nov. 11, 2011 in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment; 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light), Fort Drum, N.Y.


Army Spc. Calvin M. Pereda, 21, Fayetteville, N.C., died Nov. 12, 2011 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered after encountering an improvised explosive device while on dismounted patrol. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.


Army Sgt. 1st Class Johnathan B. McCain, 38, Apache Junction, Ariz., died Nov. 13, 2011 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries caused by an improvised explosive device while on mounted patrol. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Army National Guard Spc. Sean M. Walsh, 21, San Jose, Calif., died Nov. 16, 2011 in Khowst province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained after encountering indirect fire. He was assigned to the 185th Military Police Battalion, 49th Military Police Brigade, California National Guard, Pittsburg, Calif.

Army Pfc. Adam E. Dobereiner, 21, Moline, Ill., died Nov. 18, 2011 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 8th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas.


Army Pvt. Jackie L. Diener II, 20, Boyne City, Mich., died Nov. 21, 2011 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.

Murray, 38, Red Broiling Springs, Tenn., died Nov. 21, 2011 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. Marine Cpl. Zachary C. Reiff, 22, Preston, Iowa, died Nov. 21, 2011 of wounds suffered Nov. 18 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif.


Marine Cpl. Adam J. Buyes, 21, Salem, Ore., died Nov. 26, 2011 on foot patrol while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.


Marine Staff Sgt. Vincent J. Bell, 28, Wayne, Detroit, Mich., died Nov. 30, 2011 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan when he was hit by an improvised explosive device while on foot patrol.
