U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq

As of Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at least 4,409 members of the U.S. military had died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

Since the start of U.S. military operations in Iraq, 31,865 U.S. service members have been wounded in hostile action, according to the Defense Department’s most recent weekly tally.

Army National Guard Pfc. Bryant J. Haynes, 21, Epps, La., died June 26, 2010 in Al Diwaniyah, Iraq, of injuries sustained during a vehicle rollover. He was assigned to the 199th Support Battalion, Louisiana Army National Guard, Alexandria, La.

U.S. Military Deaths in Afghanistan

As of Friday, June 25, 2010, at least 1,052 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the Defense Department.

Army 1st Sgt. Robert N. Barton, 35, Roxie, Miss., died June 7, 2010 in Konar, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.


Army Sgt. Andrew R. Looney, 22, Owasso, Okla., died June 21, 2010 at Lar Sholtan Village / Asadabad, Afghanistan, from wounds suffered when a suicide bomber attacked his unit. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.


Army Pfc. David T. Miller, 19, Wilton, N.Y., died June 21, 2010 at Lar Sholtan Village / Asadabad, Afghanistan, from wounds suffered when a suicide bomber attacked his unit. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.


Marine Cpl. Kevin A. Cueto, 23, San Jose, Calif., died June 22, 2010 in a roadside bomb explosion while he was supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.


Marine Cpl. Joshua R. Dumaw, 23, Spokane Valley, Wash., died June 22, 2010 of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device while supporting combat operations in Delaram, Nimruz province, Afghanistan. He was a military police officer assigned to 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, II Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, N.C.


Marine Cpl. Claudio Patino IV, 22, Yorba Linda, Calif., died June 22, 2010 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.


Army 1st Sgt. Eddie Turner, 41, Fort Belvoir, Va., died June 22, 2010 at Camp Clark, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained from a non-combat incident. He was assigned to the 626th Brigade Support Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.


Army Pfc. Anthony T. Justesen, 22, Wilsonville, Ore., died June 23, 2010 at Ganjkin village, Pusht Rod district, Farah province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to Troop B, 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.


Army Spc. Russell E. Madden, 29, Dayton, Ky., died June 23, 2010 at Forward Operating Base Shank, Charkh district, Logar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his vehicle with a rocket-propelled grenade. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Conn Barracks, Germany.


Army Staff Sgt. Edwardo Loredo, 34, Houston, Texas, died June 24, 2010 in Jelewar, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.


Army Pfc. Robert L. Repkie, 20, Knoxville, Tenn., died June 24, 2010 at Forward Operating Base Farah, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained in a non-combat incident. He was assigned to the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.


Marine Cpl. Daane A. Deboer, 24, Ludington, Mich., died June 25, 2010  when an improvised explosive device detonated while he was on foot patrol supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.


Army Spc. Jared C. Plunk, 27, Stillwater, Okla., died June 25, 2010 in Asadabad, Konar province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Marine Lance Cpl. William T. (Taylor) Richards, 20, Trenton, Ga., died June 26, 2010 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
