U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq

As of Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at least 4,412 members of the U.S. military had died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

Since the start of U.S. military operations in Iraq, 31,883 U.S. service members have been wounded in hostile action, according to the Defense Department’s weekly tally.

Army National Guard Sgt. Jordan E. Tuttle, 22,  West Monroe, La., died July 2, 2010 at Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered in a non-combat incident. He was a member of the 156th Army Band in Bossier City, La., and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 141st Field Artillery Regiment, 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Louisiana National Guard, New Orleans, La.

U.S. Military Deaths in Afghanistan

As of Friday, July 9, 2010, at least 1,079 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the Defense Department.

Army Pfc. Jacob A. Dennis, 22, Powder Springs, Ga., died July 3, 2010 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries sustained June 30 in a weapons system accident at Forward Operating Base Lane, Zabul province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.


Army Sgt. Andrew J. “A.J.” Creighton, 23, Laurel, Del., died July 4, 2010 in Oruzgan province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained July 1 while conducting combat operations in Oruzgan province (drowning while attempting to cross a fast-flowing river). He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.


Army Spc. Clayton D. McGarrah, 20, Harrison, Ark., died July 4, 2010 at Arghandab, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device and rocket-propelled grenade fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Cabacoy, 30, Virginia Beach, Va., died July 5, 2010 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to 1st Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.

He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Camp Ederle, Italy.

Army Pfc. Michael S. Pridham, 19, Louisville, Ky., died July 6, 2010 at Qalat, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, Hohenfels, Germany.


Army Pfc. Anthony W. Simmons, 25, Tallahassee, Fla., died July 8, 2010 at Combat Outpost Monti in Kunar province, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with indirect fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.


Marine Lance Cpl. Daniel G. Raney, 21, Pleasant View, Tenn., died July 9, 2010 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Marine Lance Cpl. Tyler A. Roads, 20, Burney, Calif., died July 10, 2010 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.


Marine Staff Sgt. Christopher J. Antonik, 29, Crystal Lake, Ill., died July 11, 2010 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Pendleton, Calif.


Army Pfc. Nathaniel D. Garvin, 20, Radcliff, Ky., died July 12, 2010 at Forward Operating Base Frontenac, Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained in a non-combat incident. He was assigned to the 96th Aviation Support Battalion, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
