U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq

As of Friday, April 1, 2011, at least 4,441 members of the U.S. military had died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to iCasualties.org.

Since the start of U.S. military operations in Iraq, 32,049 U.S. service members have been wounded as of Feb. 28, 2011, according to iCasualties.org.

U.S. Military Deaths in Afghanistan

As of Friday, April 1, 2011, at least 1,521 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan as a result of the invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to iCasualties.org.

Since the start of U.S. military operations in Afghanistan, 10,468 U.S. service members have been wounded as of Feb. 28, 2011, according to iCasualties.org.

Army Reserve Spc. Justin D. Ross, 22, Green Bay, Wis., died March 26, 2011 in Helmand province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by small-arms fire from insurgents while on a route clearance mission. He was assigned to the 863rd Engineer Battalion, Army Reserve, Wausau, Wis.


Army Staff Sgt. Frank E. Adamski III, 26, Moosup, Conn., died March 29, 2011 at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire in Konar province. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.


Army Sgt. 1st Class Ofren Arrechaga, 28, Hialeah, Fla., died March 29, 2011 at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire in Konar province. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Burgess, 29, Cleburne, Texas, died March 29, 2011 at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire in Konar province. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.


Army Pvt. Jeremy P. Faulkner, 23, Griffin, Ga., died March 29, 2011 of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire in Konar province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.


Army Pfc. Dustin J. Feldhaus, 20, Glendale, Ariz., died March 29, 2011 at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire in Konar province. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.


Army Spc. Jameson L. Lindskog, 23, Pleasanton, Calif., died March 29, 2011 in Konar province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.


Army National Guard Spc. Dennis C. Poulin, 26, Cumberland, R.I., died March 31, 2011 in the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries sustained March 28 in Konar province, Afghanistan, from a non-combat incident. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 181st Infantry Regiment, Massachusetts National Guard, Milford, Mass.

Note: A weeklong joint operation by 650 Afghan and U.S. troops in early April in eastern Kunar province targeted insurgents who were trying to set up hideouts in its remote mountainous regions. NATO said more than 80 insurgents were killed in the operation. Six U.S. soldiers also died.

One year ago today, I reported that political reporter Pat Kessler, on the March 30, 2010 edition of “Reality Check” on WCCO 4 News at 10, fact-checked four claims Rep. Michele Bachmann made on CBS “Face the Nation” regarding healthcare reform. Kessler’s scorecard: “wrong,” “false,” “out of context,” “not true” (0 for 4 — three strikes and a foul ball).
