The horrific blast followed a suicide attack that killed 30 people outside the police training academy in eastern Baghdad. The two attacks raised fears that Sunni insurgents may be escalating operations even as the U.S. phases out its combat role in Iraq.



Summary: The economy has “fallen off a cliff,” says billionaire investor Warren Buffett, who predicts the U.S. likely will face higher unemployment and eventually inflation because of the current economic crisis.

Summary: Top Democrats believe they have struck political gold by depicting Rush Limbaugh as the new face of the Republican Party, a full-scale effort first hatched by some of the most familiar names in politics and now being guided in part from inside the White House.

Summary: Two days after calling conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh a mere “entertainer” with an “incendiary” talk show, Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele apologized and acknowledged him as a “national conservative leader.” Steele’s statement capped a remarkable weekend of awkward sparring between Republican officials and Limbaugh, who has repeatedly voiced his desire that President Barack Obama’s economic policies fail. The spat raised questions about the GOP leadership.
