Sixth District Walking Tour: Schedule for Saturday

This morning I will walk from Centerville to Hugo (4 miles) and finish in Stillwater (16 miles), for a total of about 20 miles. I hope to reach Stillwater by 4 p.m.

PROGRESS REPORT

A few miles east of Hugo I encountered a lawn sign that read:
* WE THE PEOPLE *
WWW.SAVEHUGO.COM

I introduced myself to the resident and asked him to tell me more about his issue. He explained that it was a drive to petition the state of Minnesota for an audit to detect overspending and reckless spending, and to save taxpayer dollars.

Aubrey Immelman’s family welcomes him upon arrival at Lowell Park on the St. Croix River, Stillwater, Minnesota, after his 100-mile campaign swing on foot from Freeport in Central Minnesota to Stillwater on the Wisconsin border, August 16, 2008. From left to right: Pam, Patrick (2), Matt (11), Tim (13), and Elizabeth (9).

LATE UPDATE

Rumors_08-16-2008
Addressing voters at Rumors Bar & Grill, Rice, Benton County, after returning from the day’s campaign swing through Washington County from Centerville to Hugo and Stillwater.

A highlight of the day was meeting fellow paratrooper Bruce Robertson of Rice (82nd Airborne, 1955-1958) upon arrival at Rumors from Stillwater. We struck up a conversation, he showed me the airborne tattoo on his arm, and retrieved his paratrooper cap from his car. Luckily, I had my old army beret in my Jeep for this photo of two airborne soldiers from the ‘50s and ‘70s, joined by a timeless bond of brotherhood.
