As of Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at least 4,388 members of the U.S. military had died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
Since the start of U.S. military operations in Iraq, 31,770 U.S. service members have been wounded in hostile action, according to the Defense Department’s weekly tally.

Army National Guard Pfc. Raymond N. Pacleb, 31, Honolulu, Hawaii, died March 29, 2010 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat incident. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 487th Field Artillery Regiment, Hawaii National Guard, Wahiawa, Hawaii.
U.S. Military Deaths in Afghanistan
As of Friday, April 2, 2010, at least 947 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the Defense Department.

Marine Lance Cpl. Randy M. Heck, 20, Steubenville, Ohio, died March 28, 2010 from a non-hostile incident in Djibouti, Africa. He was assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Army Spc. James L. Miller, 21, Yakima, Wash., died March 29, 2010 in Dashat, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
Army Staff Sgt. Scott W. Brunkhorst, 25, Fayetteville, N.C., died March 30, 2010Â in the Arghandab River Valley, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.
Navy Lt. Miroslav Zilberman, 31, Columbus, Ohio, died after his E-2C Hawkeye crashed into the Arabian Gulf on March 31, 2010. The recovery effort was abandoned on April 2, 2010 and his body was not recovered. Zilberman was assigned to Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 121.
Marine Lance Cpl. Tyler O. Griffin, 19, Voluntown, Conn., died April 1, 2010 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Marine Sgt. Frank J. World, 25, Buffalo, N.Y., died April 1, 2010 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

One-year retrospective: One year ago today, I reported that seven bombs rocked Shiite neighborhoods of Baghdad, killing 37 people and wounding more than 100 in a dramatic escalation of violence as U.S. forces prepared for a June 30, 2009 deadline to pull combat troops out of Iraqi cities.
