Sixth District Walking Tour Kickoff Saturday!
I kick off my walking tour of the Sixth District this Saturday, Aug. 9 (exactly one month before the Sept. 9 primary), with a 20-mile route march along the Lake Wobegon Trail from Freeport to St. Joseph.
At 9 a.m. Saturday morning, I will be at Charlie’s Café in Freeport, accompanied by my family, to meet local residents and listen to their concerns. From there, I will proceed on foot along the Lake Wobegon Trail with my four children (aged 13, 11, 9, and 2) on bicycles. I expect to reach the Albany trailhead by noon; the Avon trailhead by 2 PM; and the St. Joseph trailhead by 5 p.m., God willing.
After a day of rest Sunday, I will head south on Monday along the Highway 10 corridor to Anoka, and from there (along a route yet to be determined) to Blaine and Stillwater, where I hope to arrive by the end of the week. Updates will be posted on this campaign blog.

More Time At War: Family Members Grapple with Deployment Extensions
St. Cloud Times / Associated Press
August 7, 2008
Sgt. Janelle Johnson (center) goes for a walk with her husband Chad, and two daughters, Elizabeth (right) and Emily in Cushing, Minn., April 3, 2008. Johnson served in Iraq for 16 months. Her daughters, Emily and Elizabeth, were 6 months and 4 years old, respectively, when she was deployed. When Johnson found out about her extended deployment, she dreaded telling Elizabeth that the family would have to put off a trip to Disney World. (Photo credit: Jae C. Hong / The Associated Press)
